Paragon always finds herself just one step further behind than she intended in this exquisitely written trap.  Addiction knows every button to push, every step to take to turn the heroine into another addicted pet.  It’s all to easy to read through and see yourself falling into that trap, and enjoying every moment of it.

Our heroine is always just one step away from freedom, but no matter what she tries that one step is always blocked to her.

Turn not one, but six of the top writers in the field today loose on that premise, and you know the chances those people will get out are extremely slim.  Each writer here gets to show their strengths as they tantalize the characters with the chance of escape – and the readers with their struggles.

You know you don’t want to admit it, but you’ve always envied James Bond.  Gets all the girls, always gets away just in the nick of time, always manages to save the day.  Well, Brick Logan isn’t quite James Bond, but in his experience he does get all the girls, always gets away in the nick of time, and always manages to save the day.

Until now, that is.  Trapped in a diabolical brainwashing machine, he is taken apart piece by piece before being rewritten in this story.  And we get to watch every piece get taken off, step by step.  The tools used to take apart this spy are myths, twisted and re-written, ever so slightly.  Each in itself would be worth a story here, but they are all pulled into one unified whole for the reader’s enjoyment.

Las Fallas and Other Stories by Nymph

Stories of seduction and its consequences in three acts: one of life, one of death, and one of afterlife.

A triumvirate of increasingly dark and yet undeniably seductive tales, each economically crafted to provide the maximum erotic kick in the minimum of words. As always the author uses symbolism to evoke an otherworldly atmosphere, while still keeping the stories firmly grounded in a world recognisably our own.

From the lush, fertile playground of Las Fallas and its fae-touched nymphets, via Last Acts (where the consequences of demonic pacts are laid out so starkly) through to Ferryman where the eroticism drips like bitter, molten chocolate. Each piece serves to stir very different emotions and yet in combination they form one perfect whole.

This is a delightfully twisted tale of mental transformation, complete with unintended, (though not, given the title, entirely unexpected), consequences. The author use of language is almost playful, and the verbal ‘games’ within the text are often at least as compelling as the story itself.

It is a difficult trick, to make a character as fundamentally flawed as Liam, feel sympathetic and yet, the writer manages it (with a considerable degree of aplomb). Charlotte, by contrast, could have been a mere cipher. But, when the time comes, we know her well enough for her transformation to mean something.

Free Universal Carnal Knowledge by London Chap

What would happen if an ordinary man suddenly found he could have any woman – literally, any woman – that he wants? It sounds like a dream but when it comes true, it turns out that the ultimate sex drug can cause as many problems as it solves.

This is a fantasy in the ‘what if a regular guy irresistible to women’ genre that is detailed, given a realistic feel and draws three-dimensional characters. You meet James and his wife Wendy and his co-workers and quickly you seem to know them as well as your neighbor, which leaves the reader with confused feelings on his activities. Very thought provoking as well as reading all the effects of F.U.C.K..

There should be no drama in the girl’s fall but each one somehow is different, not easy to pull off considering its length. One of the author’s best tricks in the story is that although it is 46 chapters, almost all of them have a neat cliffhanger at the end.

The Anlorgash Incident by Lady K

A scientist researches paranormal activity at Lake Anlorgash.

The heat of this story blends seamlessly with the Lovecraftian horror to produce a tale of near-perfect, shiver-inducing squick. There is a visceral quality to the writing that fits the dark and gritty tone, while still giving enough latitude to allow the reader to feel sympathy for its protagonist.

An unremittingly dark story, it spares no punches on its way to an ending that could never be described as ‘happy. And yet, despite (or perhaps even because of) that, you’re left with a feeling of exhilaration and the disturbing sense that you really shouldn’t have enjoyed it quite as much as you obviously did.

For The Team by Bad Penny

Jake’s not particularly close to his little brother, but he’ll do what he can to protect him.

Political shenanigans combine with hot and nasty sex in this intriguing tale of blackmail and just desserts. The writing shows an economy of language, while still painting a vivid and often uncomfortable picture of exactly what is happening. And yet, there are more than enough questions left by the end to more than justify its “to be continued” tease.

In an effective ensemble piece, it is perhaps telling that only one character emerges as genuinely like-able. But while Jake is without doubt the central character, it is Donavan who steals the show. He’s an intriguing creation, who, though cast in the role of ‘rescuer’ remains both disquietingly sinister and yet somehow almost ‘honourable’ throughout.

Gold (Classic MC Story)

There are very few names in the Mind Control Genre who can be counted as ‘must read’, Tabico is one of them. This Mistress of the genre spins stories that can be erotic, disturbing, high concept, horrific,
romantic and space-operatic; often in the same story.

But which of her Forty Eight stories is the Best of the best? The neighbourly Body snatchers in ‘Pea’, the fembot factory in ‘Rouge?’, The demonic delights of ‘Balphagor’? Any of these could have been ‘the
one’.

The story we’ve selected, is, (perhaps oddly), the one with arguably
the least sex in it.

Adaptation

Set on a distant colony world, it is a story of a tiny
teenage rebellion, a little bit of naughtiness that spins out of control, leading to an alien embrace that is far more intimate and permanent than a simple sex act. (phobia warning – contains insects)

A terrorist attack sets in motion a chain of events that will touch an ancient prisoner and awaken an entirely new lifeform. For the scientist trapped in the middle, all roads seem to lead inexorably to slavery.

A heated battle, in more ways than one, in another of this author’s futuristic techno-societies, one where the terrorists are the trigger for the mystical to confront the scientific in a seductive struggle of wills and intentions, with the erotic overflow almost becoming too much for the human standing watch.  An exciting, truly well-written, back and forth, give and take story, where the outcome is always in doubt, as far more than physical forces are brought to bear in order to defeat the attackers, and each other.

Ink Soaked Penumbra by Madam Kistulot

The ink spreading its way through those closest to Sarah finally introduces itself, and our heroine may already be in over her head.

Once more into the breech with Silver Girl, as she attempts to save Midas City, her family, and her friends from a new takeover plot, this time from the forces and schemes of someone much like herself in so many ways.  With all the normal components in this excellent universe of stories: gripping action, steamy lesbian erotica, flights of self-discovery, games within games and wheels within wheels… and the addition of the intriguing metaphor of the method of MC control: writing and ink… this story never disappoints as it races to its erotic and emotional final conflict and resolution.

Women are being hypnotically conditioned to seduce and hypnotize men into worshipping and obeying them… and them helping them spread the word.

A more subtle takeover is in the works here, wonderfully shown right from the very beginning of the story, where a woman is hypnotized into “realizing” her own power over men… over all men.  The writing is tight and right and hot, as she first moves in for the kill, and then leaves her victim as just the newest link in the chain of a femdom takeover of the male population, looking for new, beautiful women to teach the “right path”, and new men to show the way to true eroticism and submission.  A quick read and an erotic and highly entertaining story.

A woman lets herself be reprogrammed by her Master’s music.

By the author’s own admission, an “out there”, let-it-rip, flight of fancy, as once again the manner of the MC… music… becomes a metaphor for the story and the writing, itself.  Steamy and lost and arousing, this story reads like a sexual, masturbatory jazz riff, scatting from feeling to feeling, and from relentless need to action, with the risk of OD’ing on a great thing ever present.  The ending is moving, too, as Master, seeing what has happened, what he’s done, tries to come to the rescue before it’s too late.  A wild, wonderful ride of a read that will leave you dizzy and breathless.

The only things bigger, more over-the-top, than the hyperbole in this fun and funny overlapping compilation of stories from some of the best MC writers going, are the… tits.  MF, FF, it hardly matters to the protagonists, as they’re at the mercy of the writers here, totally lost in the crashing trains of lust and sexual silliness foist upon them by what were probably the giggling, or evilly laughing, authors.  It’s the purple category, so why not purple prose to celebrate it, along with tons of rampant sexual thoughts and activities, a bizarre and “flexible” plotline, FFFF tits, and 36-inch cocks.  “The greatest story ever told”… read it if you dare.

A story that surprises with its darkness, with its sadness, as a man becomes a sexually driven, and rewarded, pawn in a series of events that he can only see as games.  The writing is surprisingly effective, too, as it autobiographically details how a man, who simply wanted to sleep, is slowly drawn into total MM enthrallment; his world, his mind kept simple and pleased to be helping, pleased to be rewarded, as he’s trained to do other’s secret bidding, as he’s MC’d into thinking his life is good, and happy, and erotic.  A finely crafted, classic plotline, and a cautionary tale that you’ll remember.

The 2005 Spiral Achievement Award

There’s really no reason to hold you in suspense on this one, as the winner of the first annual Spiral Achievement award will come as no surprise to anyone, for all the obvious reasons.  And so…

This year’s recipient of the Spiral Achievement Award is… 
Simon Bar Sinister.

Active in MC erotica for about as long as any single individual, owner and operator of the EMCSA, and a terrific writer of MC erotic fiction in his own right, Simon has done more than any other person to structure and support and maintain the genre that we all hold dear.  Basically single-handedly running perhaps the premium repository for MC stories on the web, Simon has given us a place to post, a set of ground-rules to follow, and done simply yeoman’s work in getting the stories up on nearly a week-in-week-out basis, in color coding them, labeling them, synopsizing them, and with taking all kinds of file types and working them into the software that he has available to run the place.

He creates links to referenced stories, links to author files, categorizes the stories, accumulates and posts readers picks.  He does his best for the authors in posting corrections and rewrites, and in removing or adding blocks of stories as authors come and go.  He gives us heads-up on the MC Forum to changes and delays and deals with ASSTR problems and inconsistencies.  And he just recently accomplished a major overhaul of the whole EMCSA site, and did it with remarkably few glitches, ones that he’s quickly corrected.  He didn’t ask, he didn’t debate, he just did what he thought would be in the best long-term interest of the EMCSA and the writers and authors who frequent there.  That he asked for input after the changeover, only shows how much he cares about the final product.

To quote Monty Python… “That’s a full workin’ day, lad!”

And let’s not forget about what a fine writer he is, with stories of his own on the Archive from as far back as 1994.  Some of his stories that have become Reader’s Picks include, Absolute Obedience, Command & Control, Force of Will, Spa, and Prince City.

No, there was little doubt as to the outcome of this award, and it is indeed our honor and privilege to give the 2005 Spiral Achievement Award to Simon Bar Sinister, with our great thanks and best wishes for the future… for both you, your writing, and the EMCSA.
